High Performance NSF H1 Registered Lubricants for Food Machinery
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 lubricant is a high-performance oil for hydraulic, compressor, gear, and bearing applications, designed to provide exceptional equipment protection, long oil life, and reliable operation in food and beverage processing and packaging. Formulated from FDA- and NSF-registered hydrocarbon base fluids and additives, the Mobil SHC Cibus 460 combines a naturally high viscosity index with a proprietary additive system, enabling excellent performance in various conditions, including high and low temperatures, heavy loads, and frequent wash-down areas—outperforming conventional mineral oils.
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is NSF H1 registered and complies with FDA’s Title 21 CFR 178.3570 for lubricants with incidental food contact. Manufactured in ISO 22000 certified facilities that meet ISO 21469 requirements, this product supports high standards of product integrity. It is also suitable for use in Kosher and Halal food preparation, offering versatility for multi-faith applications. The lubricant is pale in color, low in odor, and free from animal-derived materials, as well as allergens such as nuts, wheat, and gluten.
With low traction coefficients due to the molecular structure of its base stocks, Mobil SHC Cibus 460 reduces fluid friction in load zones of non-conforming surfaces, potentially lowering operating temperatures and improving equipment efficiency, which can lead to reduced power consumption. Its carefully engineered formula extends machinery component life and enables more economical equipment designs. The additive system provides robust wear protection, oxidation stability, corrosion resistance—even in moist conditions—and promotes system cleanliness. Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is compatible with seals and construction materials typically used with mineral oils.
The Mobil SHC Cibus 460 serves as a hydraulic, gear, bearing, and circulating oil in various areas within food processing plants, allowing it to be included in HACCP plans. The product meets rigorous performance standards set by various component manufacturers and supports multi-metal designs, making it an effective single product for diverse lubrication needs. Its NSF H1 registration benefits allow for inventory consolidation and help mitigate the risk of non-H1 lubricants being dispensed in high-risk contamination areas.
Through advanced traction properties, Mobil SHC Cibus 460 has demonstrated potential for significant energy savings in gear (3.6%) and hydraulic (3.5%) applications versus conventional oils in field and laboratory tests.
Energy efficiency relates solely to the fluid performance when compared to conventional (mineral) oils of the same viscosity grade in circulating and gear applications. This technology provides up to 3.6% efficiency improvement in controlled worm gearbox tests.
Efficiency gains may vary based on operating conditions and applications.
Features and Benefits
The Mobil SHC brand of lubricants is recognized globally for innovation and performance. These molecularly designed products, based on synthetic materials, underscore a commitment to advanced technology in high-quality lubricant production, with efficiency improvements over mineral oils as one of the notable benefits.
Applications
Handling and Storage Recommendations: Mobil SHC Cibus lubricants should be stored indoors and separated from non-NSF H1 lubricants, ideally in a clearly marked, designated area. Drums and pails should not be stacked with non-NSF H1 lubricants. Containers should be undamaged and sealed upon receipt, with delivery dates, batch numbers, and expiration dates recorded. After first use, proper stock rotation is advised. All containers should be sealed after use, and unused oil should not be returned to its original container. Equipment for internal transport should be clearly labeled, and machinery should be labeled with the correct NSF H1 lubricant designation as apropriate.
Lubricant Changeover: Although Mobil SHC Cibus 460 may be physically compatible with other NSF H1 or non-NSF H1 mineral oils, mixing can reduce performance and affect H1 registration compliance. A thorough system clean-out and flush are recommended before switching from non-H1 lubricants to Mobil SHC Cibus 460 or when filling new equipment, to optimize performance and maintain H1 registration.
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is well-suited for hydraulic, compressor, gear, and bearing applications within food and beverage processing, packaging, and pharmaceuticals. These products are ideal for applications with high maintenance costs, including component replacement, system cleaning, and lubricant changes.
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is intended for gear, bearing, and circulating systems.
A used oil analysis program, such as ExxonMobil’s Signum, can help monitor wear metal concentrations and support maintenance planning.
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 meets NSF H1 standards for incidental food contact, with a limit of 10 ppm oil in food per FDA 21CFR 178.3570. These products are not intended for direct food contact.
